Winter is the season when children, young and adult tend to come down with a cold, cough, and sore throats. Simple home remedies that can be sourced out of our kitchens can help us keep our immunity up as well as help to overcome the infection too. The trick is to get started with the remedies as soon as we experience the basic initials symptoms.These remedies will prevent the aggravation of the symptoms.
Add 2 tsp of crushed thyme in a boiling cup of water. Allow it to brew for about 10 min by covering. Then strain and drink. This will ease the throat muscles and reduce the inflammation ( sore throat).
In severe and dry cough half a tsp of honey will help reduce the irritability in the throat.
Turmeric milk. Take a cup of cow's milk. Boil in a pan and add a pinch of pepper and cardamom powder each. Also, add 1/2 tsp of turmeric powder. Take it off the gas then add the honey for sweetness. Drink at night before going to bed.
Steam inhalation with a drop of eucalyptus essential oil.
Boil crushed 1 tsp of crushed ginger in about a liter of water for 5 min. Keep in a thermos and sip through the day.
Rub cold-pressed mustard oil on the feet and chest. This helps release the chest congestion. Excellent for kids.
Chew 6-7 tulsi (holy basil) leaves with 2-3 peppercorns and 1 tsp of honey on an empty stomach first thing in the morning.
Chewing about 1/2 a tsp of whole coriander seeds is very soothing to a sore /hurting throat.
Apply castor oil to your neck region and cover it with a soft cloth. The warmth of the oil is very soothing to the throat.
When we choose to follow a remedy; our faith in it is what makes it work.
